LEVELING PROJECTS

Olympia (Completed)

The City of Olympia has two tidal gauge stations on the Puget Sound. These tidal gauge stations are known as Olympia, Budd Inlet, Puget Sound and Budd Inlet, South of Gull Harbor. These tidal gauge stations have never been compared to each other in relationship to NAVD 88.

The project was to establish first order class II elevations on both tidal gauge station benchmarks. This was accomplished by running approximately 30 km. of levels using existing first order benchmarks south and east of the tidal gauge stations. This project also incorporated benchmarks that were used by WSDOT to establish an ARP elevation on CORS station “TUMW”. This project was surveyed in the summer of 2008 and submitted to NGS in the fall of 2008.

Skamania ‘SKMA’ (Completed)

The survey project consisted of all geodetic leveling work necessary to establish a 2nd Order, Class I orthometric elevation on the Skamania WSRN Station’s antenna reference point in Section 36, Township 3 North, Range 7 East, Willamette Meridian, Skamania County, Washington, latitude 45° 41’ 39.26334” North, longitude 121° 53’ 02.19814” West, elevation 43.485 meters (ellipsoid). The WSRN station is located on the top of the Skamania County Court House in Stevenson Washington. This project was surveyed in November 2007 and submitted to NGS March 2008.

Spokane ‘SPKN’ (Completed)

The survey project consisted of all geodetic leveling work necessary to establish a 2nd Order, Class 1 orthometric elevation on the Spokane WSRN Station’s antenna reference point in Section 33, Township 25 North, Range 42 East, Willamette Meridian, Spokane County, Washington, latitude 47° 37’ 39.57193” North, longitude 117° 30’ 09.225798” West, elevation 695.035 meters (ellipsoid). The WSRN station is located on City of Spokane property at the Waste to Energy Plant and contact should be made through Katherine Miller, PE, Senior Engineer for the City of Spokane, phone 509-625-6338. This project was surveyed in November 2006 and submitted to NGS March 2007.

Latah ‘LTAH’ (Completed)

The survey consisted of all geodetic leveling work necessary to establish a 2nd Order, Class 1 orthometric elevation on the Latah WSRN Station’s antenna reference point in Section 30, Township 21 North, Range 45 East, Willamette Meridian, Spokane County, Washington, latitude 47° 16’ 56.72399” North, longitude 117° 09’ 49.926498” West, elevation 737.050 meters (ellipsoid). Access to the Latah WSRN station is through Spokane County, Jerry Sims, County Surveyor, 1026 West Broadway Ave, Spokane, WA 99260-0170 Phone (509) 477-7471 (office) or Jim McLefresh, Phone (509) 477-7471 (office). This project was surveyed in November 2006 and submitted to NGS March 2007.

Sprague ‘SPRG’ (Completed)

The survey consisted of all geodetic leveling work necessary to establish a 2nd Order, Class I orthometric elevation on the Sprague WSRN Station’s antenna reference point in Section 14, Township 21 North, Range 38 East, Willamette Meridian, Lincoln County, Washington, latitude 47° 18’ 35.463172” North, longitude 117° 58’ 31.137669” West, elevation 602.975 meters (ellipsoid). Access to the Sprague WSRN station is restricted and the station is located within a chain link, locked enclosure. The station is located on Washington State Dept. of Transportation property at the Sprague Highway Maintenance Facility and contact should be made through John Lacey, PLS, WsDOT Eastern Region Surveyor, phone (509) 324-6114. John will then arrange access to the site and notify the maintenance supervisor, Barbara Buehler at (509) 257-2671. This project was surveyed in November 2006 and submitted to NGS March 2007.

No further DNR leveling projects are planned at this time.
